| Thompson & Capper was formed by Thomas Thompson
in 1798 and S. J. Capper joined as a partner in 1843. Originally a
homeopathic chemist in Liverpool, the company grew to include a manufacturing
facility as well as several retail outlets in the UK.
In the early years of this century, the company became associated
with Stokes Machine Co. of Philadelphia and started to produce tablet
presses under the name of Manesty at the Liverpool factory. This
venture was later sold and operates today as BWI Manesty, producing
modern tablet presses.
In 1976 Thompson & Capper relocated to Runcorn in Cheshire
to concentrate on the manufacture of tablets.
Since that date we have evolved into a major manufacturer of quality
tablets and capsules to some of the best known companies and brands
in the world.
Quality, commitment and excellence are the essence of Thompson
& Capper.
In 1988, we obtained ISO9002 certification and, in 1998, following
a major expansion and a purpose built factory for the manufacture
of vitamins, minerals and supplements, the Medicines Control Agency
granted us a full manufacturing licence.
In 1999, DCC plc, acquired Thompson & Capper Ltd., providing us with the financial support and focus to continue to grow our business in the new millennium. Eurocaps and Laleham Healthcare are also owned by DCC and thus the DCC Health & Beauty Solutions Group can now offer tablets, hardshell and softgel capsules, creams, liquids and packaging services.
Thompson & Capper can accurately claim to have been involved
in the history of tablet making. Medicines, food stuffs and chemicals
have formed the bulk of our work but our processes have also included
such novelties as tea tablets and tablets used to inflate tennis
balls!
